Construction in Heaven

For the past couple of weeks, Dylan has been afraid of loud noises. We've had a few loud thunderstorms, so I have been telling him that God is building him a house in Heaven and is using loud construction machines. Seems to be working a little...

So, last night during dinner we had another thunderstorm. Once again, he was afraid. I pointed to the wrecking ball knocking down a brick wall on his place mat and told him that God must be knocking down an old building to build a new house for him. Immediately he looked at me and said, "Oh no, he's crashing Aunt Kerin's building... in Japan!" We assured him that Kerin was fine and that God would take care of her, then he moved on to something else. I think it was God dumping his dump truck full of trees. =)

Funny how his little mind works. At least he hasn't forgotten about you Kerin!

Weekend Getaway

This weekend, Jon and I traveled up to Traverse City for a late anniversary "date" and for one last weekend alone before we are a family of four. Dylan was with my parents and I don't even think he missed us! We had a great weekend sleeping in, walking around town, eating, and just asking eachother, "What shall we do next?" We had great weather and the leaves were just starting to change, so on Saturday we drove up the Old Mission Peninsula. When we reached the lighthouse, we walked to the point where the West & East Bays come together. We've been to the lighthouse before, but the water was never that low, so it was pretty awesome to walk out that far into the bay. We had a great time relaxing and hanging out just the 2 of us... why don't we do that more often!?!

A Boy Must Play

Dylan
definition: A child lacking in energy, imagination, or fun

Ok, so that's not right! Here are a few shots to prove it...

Learning how to play Lacrosse with Uncle Eric
He found these cans in the pantry...
so why not build a tower then knock it down!
Yeah for garage sale buys!
Dylan has played this game 5 times in the last 24 hours!

The Mind of a 2 Year Old

So, here is our dinner conversation tonight--

Sara: "Dylan, eat up your enchilada."
Dylan: "No, Mom eat it."
S: "I ate mine already. I'll have more for lunch after we go to the zoo."
D: "We can eat the enchilada at the zoo."
S: "No, we don't have a microwave at the zoo to warm it up."
D: "Let's bring our white microwave."
S: "We can't do that. It's screwed into the wall."
D: (pause) "Let's get the screwdriver and unscrew it from the wall."
S: "What would we do with it then?"
D: "We can bring it to the zoo."
S: "What are we going to do with it at the zoo?"
D: "Make cookies!" (big smile!)

Of course!

Apple Picking

Dylan was very excited to wake up this morning because he was looking forward to "picking apples off the trees." So, this morning we bundled up and headed to Vince Brown Orchards. I thought he would like the tractor ride out to the trees, but I was wrong. I guess we shouldn't have sat right behind the loud tractor. However, once we got off and started picking, he loved it. Especially eating the apples he just picked! The tractor ride back to the car was much better since we sat at the back of the trailer and he liked watching the other apple & peach trees. He even told us that tomorrow we need to pick plums! Dylan also liked looking at the apples, indian corn, pumpkins, and peacocks at their store. On the ride home, we asked him what his favorite part was. "My little pumpkin." Of course... we should have just bought one at Meijer! Oh well!

Aunt Kerin

We miss you Kerin! This past week, Dylan has been talking a lot about you. The best two lines came in reference to building. First, we were building a big tower with his blocks when he pointed to the top and said, "Aunt Kerin lives here." Not quite sure where he got that... Here's a picture of where you live according to "Big D":

Then yesterday while we were coloring, he told me to draw a big, tall building and put Aunt Kerin in one of the windows and Dylan in another. I guess he wants to come visit you. We'll send him with Uncle Mark or Grandpa & Grandma, whoever goes first!

We're glad that you're having a great time in Japan and we love reading all about your adventures! Enjoy your time to explore, but be sure to move back to Michigan some day so we can enjoy YOU too! =)

A Date Day

On Saturday, Jon and I had the whole day to ourselves! Jon's parents brought Dylan up to the cottage in the morning, so we headed out to breakfast to have actual adult conversation! After lunch we headed over to Bruce & Jayme Morren's to go to the U of M football game. This was my first experience at the Big House, so I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, we had front row seats (literally) to the biggest loss for the Wolverines in like 45 years... it was pretty sad. I'm sure the atmosphere would have been MUCH better had we won. But, oh well, we had a great time anyway! Thanks Bruce & Jayme!

Oh, and here's the "belly shot" you've all been begging for... =)

Dylan's Actual Words

"I am Tiger Woods."

"I am fixing with a Phillips."

Already?

I'm thinking it's a little too early for this. But none the less, here's what has been happening the last few nights at bed time as we walk downstairs.

"Mom...(long pause)... I need to do the dishes right now."

"Dad... I need to wash my hands."

"Mom... I need to cut down some trees."

"Dad... I need to cherpkutshin" (That's Dylan's newest trick, making up words just to confuse me!)

And these are really things he says to us! For Heaven sakes, he's only 2! What an exciting life we have ahead of us...

Ozone Action Day in September?

What do we do on a hot, sticky day in September? Fill up the pool and see what excitement it brings to a 1 & 2 year old! Dylan & Austin had a great time!

Hide And Seek

Now here's another way to play Hide And Seek...

...with the moon! (Sorry it's a little dark. It is night after all!)
